Cactus Pads (Nopales)
An excellent food for desert species. High in fiber, calcium, and moisture โ especially valuable for uromastyx and tortoises that don't drink frequently. Baby Bananas
Same nutritional profile as regular bananas โ high in phosphorus which interferes with calcium absorption. Occasional treat only despite their small size. Not recommended for tortoises or uromastyx.
๐ฅฌ
โ Caution
๐ฒ Beardie๐ฆ Iguana๐ข Tortoise
Spinach
Contains oxalic acid which binds calcium and can contribute to metabolic bone disease over time. Occasional small amounts are fine but never use as a staple.

Kale
Nutritious but contains goitrogens which can affect thyroid function if fed daily in large amounts. Rotate with other greens rather than using as a sole staple.
๐
โ Caution
All species
Citrus Fruits

๐ฅ
โ Caution
๐ฒ Beardie๐ข Turtle
Eggs
Cooked egg (no seasoning) is occasionally fed to omnivorous species like bearded dragons and turtles as a protein source. Not appropriate for herbivorous species.
๐
โ Caution
๐ฒ Beardie๐ข Turtle
Mealworms
High in fat and phosphorus. Safe as an occasional treat for omnivorous species but should not replace crickets or dubia roaches as a primary feeder insect.
๐ซ Never Feed These Foods
These foods are toxic, harmful, or provide no safe nutritional value for pet reptiles.
๐ฅ
โ Never Feed
Avocado
Contains persin which is toxic to reptiles. The flesh, skin, and pit are all dangerous. Can cause weakness, difficulty breathing, and death.
๐ง
โ Never Feed
Onions & Garlic
Toxic to reptiles in both raw and cooked forms. Cause damage to red blood cells and can lead to anemia and organ damage.
๐ฟ
โ Never Feed
Rhubarb
Extremely high in oxalic acid โ one of the most dangerous foods for reptiles. Can cause kidney failure even in small amounts. Never feed any part of the plant.
๐ฅฌ
โ Never Feed
Iceberg Lettuce
No nutritional value and causes diarrhea and dehydration. Often mistaken as a healthy green โ it is not. Use collard greens, mustard greens, or dandelion instead.
โจ
โ Never Feed
Fireflies / Lightning Bugs
Highly toxic to bearded dragons and other lizards. A single firefly can kill a bearded dragon. Never allow any access to these insects.
๐ง
โ Never Feed
Salt & Processed Foods
Reptile kidneys cannot process salt effectively. Any processed human food with salt, sugar, preservatives, or seasoning should never be offered.
๐
โ Never Feed
Mushrooms
Most mushroom varieties can cause digestive and organ damage in reptiles. Not a natural part of any of these species' diets โ avoid entirely.
๐ฅ
โ Never Feed
Dairy Products
Reptiles have no ability to digest lactose. Cheese, milk, and yogurt will cause serious digestive distress. Never offer any dairy product.
